Walk Away From Doubt
Overcoming Doubt is as simply as going on a walk. Today, I want to share with you two lessons to learn and one choice to make that will help you leave doubt behind one step at a time.
Faith is the foundation of every relationship, whether with God (Heb.11:6) or one another. A wife who doubts her husband, a father who can’t trust his son, a church that is dubious about their pastor’s integrity, an individual who isn’t sure God can be both good and sovereign, are all on shaky ground. Where trust is weak, so is the relationship. That is why the enemy of our souls takes aim at our lives with fiery darts of doubt, and why we must be armed with “the shield of faith” (Eph.6:16).
Near the end of the Pentateuch, there is truth that needs to be understood and remembered for us to survive Satan’s attacks on our faith:
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29
You may recall how Moses asked to see God’s glory. God’s response to Moses was essentially, “you can’t handle seeing my full glory, so I’m only going to show you what you can handle.” Our God has revealed as much of Himself and His plan for our lives as we can handle. We must, therefore, trust Him in “the secret things” and be faithful to Him in what He has revealed. So, what does this mean in practical terms?
LESSON 1: Rejoice in all that God has revealed. God has given us His creation (Rom. 1:19-20), His word (2Tim. 3:16-17) and His Son (Heb. 1:1-2), and these gifts reveal Himself and His truth completely and sufficiently for us. So rather than focus on what we don’t have or can’t understand, we should find joy in exploring and marveling in all that we do have.
LESSON 2: Repent. When we find ourselves turning from God in doubt, it is ultimately because of our pride and unbelief. Like Adam and Eve in the garden, when our faith is challenged by the tests & temptations of the enemy, we tend to promote ourselves and demote our God. If you are doubting God, repent and renew your faith.
CHOICE: Whatever your struggle is today, as you remind yourself of all you know about God and repent of your unbelief, the choice you need to make is to DO THE NEXT RIGHT THING! Don’t worry about or try to understand the whole road ahead, trust God for that, and then do what you know He wants you to do next. Our relationship with God isn’t called a “walk” for nothing. We don’t “run” with God, we take each step with Him in faith, doing the next right thing, and then the next – Left, right, left…
