3 Spiritual Practices to Grow your Faith
A Call to Grow in Faith
As we’ve been journeying in life together there comes a pivotal moment when we’re called to embrace maturity in our faith. It’s a challenge to move beyond the shallow waters of spiritual infancy into the depths of a mature, steadfast relationship with our Creator. This call ought to echo through the hallways of our homes and neighborhoods, classrooms and workplaces. The words of the apostle Paul should resonate with us when he said: “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways” (1 Corinthians 13:11, ESV).
The call to spiritual maturity should not merely be an option; it should be an anticipated inevitability for believers. It’s a call to grow deeper, to press onward, and to bear the fruits of faith in abundance. So, what does it mean to acknowledge and recognize this call? How do we step into the fullness of spiritual maturity? Let’s explore three tangible steps to guide us on this transformative journey.
Embrace the Word of God
Read your Bible!
The foundation of spiritual maturity rests upon a deep, intimate knowledge of God’s Word. Just as a tree draws its strength from its roots, we draw our strength from the timeless truths revealed in Scripture. The psalmist beautifully captures this sentiment, declaring, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105, ESV).
In order to grow into spiritual maturity, we must immerse ourselves in the Word of God DAILY. Let the wisdom from the Word penetrate our hearts, shaping our thoughts, words, and actions. Through diligent study and reflection, we get to know God’s character, His promises, and His will for our lives. As we align our lives with His Word, we begin to bear fruit in abundance, reflecting the image of Christ to the world around us.
Cultivate a Life of Prayer
Prayer is the lifeblood of the believer, the vital connection that sustains our relationship with God. Ive told you since the beginning of the year that I want to pray more this than I ever have, and so far I have made it a point o allow prayer to be a main driver of how I respond in my life. It’s in the quiet moments of communion with our Heavenly Father that we find strength, guidance, and renewed vision for our journey. Jesus Himself set the example for us, often withdrawing to solitary places to pray (Luke 5:16).
To grow in spiritual maturity, we must cultivate a life of prayer characterized by intimacy, persistence, and faith. In prayer, we pour out our hearts before God, laying bare our fears, hopes, and dreams. We seek His guidance, trusting in His wisdom and sovereignty. And as we pray without ceasing, our faith deepens, and our relationship with God grows ever stronger.
Walk in Obedience and Love
True spiritual maturity is not merely measured by knowledge or religious activity but by our obedience to God’s commands and our love for others. Jesus made this clear when He said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15, ESV).
To walk in spiritual maturity is to live a life characterized by obedience to God’s Word and love for our neighbors. It’s about surrendering our will to His, even when it’s difficult, and allowing His love to flow through us to those around us. It’s about living with integrity, compassion, and humility, reflecting the character of Christ in all that we do.
Closing our time together, the call to spiritual maturity captivates us to journey deeper into the heart of God, to embrace His Word, cultivate a life of prayer, and walk in obedience and love. It’s a call that requires courage, perseverance, and unwavering faith. But as we heed this call, we discover the abundant life that Christ promised—a life marked by joy, peace, and purpose. So, let us rise to the challenge, knowing that God who began a good work in us will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6, ESV).
