Vocational Ministry Assistance Fund

Vocational Ministry Assistance Fund

First Sunday of the month, 12:00 AM

Download: Download Event

HDC’s Vocational Ministry Assistance Fund is designed to assist students who are pursuing undergraduate degrees for the purpose of vocational ministry. While we recognize that all believers are to be ministering within the context of their vocations and relationships, some are called to serve in ministry contexts that specifically equip believers to change their worlds for Christ.

All contributions to this fund are tax deductible and the distribution of those monies is solely at the discretion of HDC. Contributions cannot be given for the benefit of any particular student. HDC has very few dedicated funds and it is always our desire to apply 100% of those funds toward the intent of the fund. In the unlikely event that the fund should need to be closed, all remaining fund balances will be distributed to qualifying students. If no qualifying students are found, the balance will revert to the general fund.

The Administrative Board will approve a committee each Spring, consisting of at least one staff member and two Board members. Awards will be made for the academic year. All decisions of the committee are final and are not open to appeal. Awards will be based on determination of need and the availability of funds.

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their spiritual maturity, their HDC membership, their involvement in HDC’s Three Meaningfuls and their service to the greater high desert community. Funds may be tied to internship opportunities on a limited basis.

All applications must be filled out completely for each academic year. Letters of recommendation, testimony and statement of faith will not need to be resubmitted. The application deadline is April 30th.

Funds will only be awarded to approved Christian schools on a list maintained by the Senior Leadership Team.

FAQs

Why is this limited to students pursuing vocational ministry? As a leadership team, we are always looking for our replacements. It is our desire to help prepare the next generation of vocational ministers not only here at HDC, but also for the global church.

Why can’t I contribute to a specific student? IRS tax law states that in order for your contribution to be tax deductible you can’t contribute to a specific individual.

Who makes fund distribution decisions and how are they made? A member of HDC’s staff and two HDC Board members meet to determine the award amounts prior to the academic year. None of the committee members will have family members that benefit from the fund. They will evaluate each applicant according to their participation at HDC, spiritual maturity and oikocentric life style.

How much money should I expect? Because the fund relies solely on donations and the number of applicants vary from year to year we can’t say. The desire is to distribute the available funds to qualified students up to a maximum cap determined by the committee.

What if the college I want to attend is not on the approved list? HDC’s Senior Leadership Team is responsible to approve schools that are generally in line with HDC’s doctrinal statement and are most likely to prepare students for vocational ministry. If you would like a school to be considered for the list, email the school information to  .

What if I start school in the spring? Funds are evaluated once a year in time for the traditional fall school year and it is our desire to disperse all funds available. Even though you will not receive funds when you start college, you should still fill out an application to be considered for the following fall.

How can I find out about internship opportunities? You can indicate your desire to be considered for an internship on your application. There are minimal internship opportunities and they may have specific eligibility requirements. You will be contacted for an interview if an internship is available.

How can I receive an application? Email your request for an application to   or contact HDC’s office at (760) 245-2415.
